When you find a group to join, visit the associated group URL. LinkedIn displays the group invitation page. Click the button to join.
Your request is stored for the group administrator to process. Administrators do not receive an email for new applications. They only know about it when they visit the LinkedIn web site, go to group management, and then check their group for request to join.
Most administrators process requests in a few days or a week. However a few groups are no longer active or may have inactive administrators, and so your request may never be processed.
In rare occasions (typically when a group is first set up and already has a membership list) you may be pre-approved. In this case your request is automatically accepted.
You will see the following message with links on your home page until your membership is approved (or rejected).
You need not do anything for open membership Groups like the DallasBlue LinkedIn group where all requests requests are approved when the group manager processes them. However it would be appropriate to remind the group owner if your request is a week or two old.
If you applied to a closed membership group, such as an alumni group or one that requires current or paid membership in the real world group, you may need to be qualify for membership. Each group works differently.
Sometimes group administrators will look you up in a membership list or check your LinkedIn address domain or profile to see if you qualify. Or they may send you an email asking you for more info.
For closed groups it is helpful to contact the group owner with your qualifications.
Once you're approved you will have access to GroupFeatures, such as having the group logo displayed with your profile.
