LinkedIn Group Features

LinkedIn had 3,000 groups through October 2007. Then L~inkedIn launched a feature where an user could create his own group. The number of groups has grown to over 6,000 official groups. Find one or more groups that you can join at http://MyLinkGroups.com .

Groups may be public or private. Memberships may be open (anyone can join) or closed (you must be an existing member of the group or meet other criteria).

Groups give the following benefits to members:

• Search directly for group members. To access group search, click Advanced Search. At the bottom of the search form is a button called Search within my groups. Click the button and your groups will be displayed. Click the checkbox next to the group(s) that you want to search.

• Directly contact group members. You don't have to go through the delay and uncertainty of using mutual connections. When the group member's profile is displayed, click Send InMail or Contact Directly in the upper right corner, instead of Get Introduced. Note that not all groups allow direct contact by default or choice, and individual members can turn off direct contact on a group by group basis. So if you click InMail check the message form to verify that you are using a group introduction and not an InMail.

• Easily identify other group members. LinkedIn displays group logos for members on searches and individual profiles. Not all group logos are visible. They are displayed only for fellow group members if the group is private, and for all LinkedIn members if the group is public, like the DallasBlue Executives LinkedIn group.

• Get your own LinkedIn group merit badge, i.e. logo, which is displayed when your profile is displayed on a search or viewed in full. As above, your group logo is displayed only for fellow group members if the group is private, and for all LinkedIn members if the group is public.
