Your LinkedIn Address

You asked

I embedded the public url (www.linkedin.com/in/name) link in an outbound e-mail. When I tested it, the profile didn't display my recommendations (endorsements). I had to click the View Full Profile button to see those. The problem is, few—if any—recruiters or employers are going to bother clicking that button. Instead, how do I send the URL to my full profile?

There are a few different versions of your LinkedIn address. It can be any one of the following:

Personal LinkedIn URL

This version of your profile is public and accessible to anyone over the Internet and search engines. As you note in your question it does not contain everything in your regular LinkedIn profile.

Click on your profile tab or go to http://www.linkedin.com/myprofile?trk=tab_pro to see what is displayed in your public profile and select a personal name.

Example - http://www.linkedin.com/in/marcfreedman .

Public anonymous URL

This is the address for your public profile if you haven't selected a personal name yet.

Example - http://www.linkedin.com/pub/7/1b2/b92

LinkedIn member URL

This is your full profile and accessible only to LinkedIn members in your network.

Example - http://www.linkedin.com/profile?viewProfile=&key=5444337

LinkedIn member, ID, or Key number

Your LinkedIn member URL contains your LinkedIn member (or ID or key) number, which is a 5 to 7 digit number. The number after key, 5444337 in the example above, is your LinkedIn member number.

To get your LinkedIn member URL and member number:

  1. Go to http://www.linkedin.com/myprofile?trk=tab_pro to display your LinkedIn profile
  2. Right click on the text link "View My Profile as others see it" and select Copy Location or a similar browser command that copies the link URL.
  3. Paste the URL into a text, Word, or email document.  It should look like http://www.linkedin.com/profile?viewProfile=&key=5444337
  4. Copy the number after "key=".  This is your member number.  In this example, it's 5444337.

Custom URL.

Your LinkedIn address could be a custom URL that is set up to forward to a LinkedIn address.

Example - http://MyLinkDaddy.com .

DallasBlue provides a service where you can get your own personal custom URL, such as http://John.MyLinkNetwork.com . See http://mylinkinvitation.com/personal.php .
